By resetting your Brother printer's page counter, you can avoid having to reset your cartridge's flag gear or installing one on a starter cartridge. Resetting the page counter is often easier than resetting the cartridge's gear as it requires no disassembly. This procedure is also highly recommended before refilling so as to extend the life of your cartridge, making full use of the toner inside for additional cost savings.

On the recently released Brother TN-431/433/436/439-series, replacement flag gears are not readily available. Thus, for TN-431/433/436/439 starter cartridges, resetting the page counter is often the only way to get a refilled cartridge working. Therefore, if you will be refilling a starter cartridge, please confirm that you can access the reset menu according to the procedure below before ordering.
